C04.2 • Closing the perforations
When the well is on shut-in mode, some crossflow may occur between the different layers
through the open perforations. In some cases, this crossflow can completely modify the
temperature profile along the well, and it may become necessary to close the perforations.
When all the perforations are closed, the temperature logs display the well cells
temperatures, i.e. the temperature on the reservoir side
.
In the new run, go back to the well perforation dialog by clicking on ‘Wells’
, then on
‘Perforations’
. In the corresponding dialog, change the opening and the closing time of
the perforations so that the perforations are closed during the shut-in period of the well (after
5 hours of injection).
Fig. C04.2 • Perforation controls
Go back to the Simulation page, click on ‘Run settings’
, ‘Initialize’
, ‘Simulate’
, and maximize the log plot.
As previously, play with the panels width to display only the Water rate qw and the
Temperature log and set the horizontal scale from -10 to +30 for the qw log.
Set the time to the 05:00 hours (time of maximum crossflow in run 1).
Because there is no crossflow during the fall off, the temperature log is very different from the
flat one obtained in the Run 1.
The displayed temperature is now the temperature in the corresponding well cells (i.e. in the
reservoir) which explains the difference between Run 1 and Run 2.
